Vegetation Characteristics Based Climate Change Vulnerability Assessment of Temperate Forests of Western Himalaya

چکیده

Forests are under stress due to variety of climatic and non-climatic factors. Therefore for suitably managing the forests, vulnerability forests needs be understood. The present paper attempts estimate various temperate Western Himalaya climate change by analyzing patterns different taxonomical indices, based on primary data i.e., vegetation data. presents a novel approach assessment field through bottom-up approach. was assessed IPCC framework selecting indicators (taxonomy indices parameters) three dimensions exposure, sensitivity adaptive capacity. were collected from 17 distributed at elevation “1600 3500 m” in Uttarakhand Himachal Pradesh, India. Abundance richness each forest randomly laying ten quadrats size 0.1 ha each. analysis resulted into identifying most least vulnerable western change. showed that Neoza Pine; Moist Deodar; Ban Oak Dry Broadleaved Coniferous Himalayan Moreover, variation levels status selected insignificant with elevational range as well exposure climate. proposed method will serve estimation actual realization species field.

Edge effects enhance carbon uptake and its vulnerability to climate change in temperate broadleaf forests.

Forest fragmentation is a ubiquitous, ongoing global phenomenon with profound impacts on the growing conditions of the world's remaining forest. The temperate broadleaf forest makes a large contribution to the global terrestrial carbon sink but is also the most heavily fragmented forest biome in the world. We use field measurements and geospatial analyses to characterize carbon dynamics in temp...

Climate change vulnerability assessment in Georgia

Climate change is occurring in the Southeastern United States, and one manifestation is changes in frequency and intensity of extreme events. A vulnerability assessment is performed in the state of Georgia (United States) at the county level from 1975 to 2012 in decadal increments. Climate change vulnerability is typically measured as a function of exposure to physical phenomena (e.g., droughts...

Grazing Response of Topsoil Characteristics in Temperate Rangelands of Kashmir, Himalaya

The superficial strata of ground have been perennially exposed to the action of natural agents such as heat, cold and water. However, grazing agent was not different from them when soils were investigated from temperate rangelands of Kashmir and caused the soil compaction, soil structure degradation and loss of soil organic C and C/N ratio. Soils from three grazing intensities were investigated...

Evaluation of climate‐related carbon turnover processes in global vegetation models for boreal and temperate forests

Turnover concepts in state-of-the-art global vegetation models (GVMs) account for various processes, but are often highly simplified and may not include an adequate representation of the dominant processes that shape vegetation carbon turnover rates in real forest ecosystems at a large spatial scale. Here, we evaluate vegetation carbon turnover processes in GVMs participating in the Inter-Secto...

A Climate Change Vulnerability Assessment of California's At-Risk Birds

Conservationists must develop new strategies and adapt existing tools to address the consequences of anthropogenic climate change. To support statewide climate change adaptation, we developed a framework for assessing climate change vulnerability of California's at-risk birds and integrating it into the existing California Bird Species of Special Concern list. We defined climate vulnerability a...
